Will football eventually become a non contact sport?

Or is it pretty much there already? Will it be completely non contact within the next 5 years as I feel it might be??

It’s so disappointing seeing this now and players not going in for tackles anymore. Some tackles used to really get the crowd going too.
Hearing Maguire moaning today about the penalty he didn’t get when the referee overturned after looking at it again on the VAR screen “I was goal side and I felt a touch on my shoulders so he was holding me back” and “there was a little tap on my legs” .........really, that’s good enough for a penalty? The ball was also about 6 foot above him not a chance of getting his slabhead on it!!

100%. Half the time on replay you can see them start to jump or fall before contact.

It's on the officials to stop giving penalties for minimal contact. Players like Salah and Grealish are throwing themselves to the ground screaming after a brush from a defender, or just from running past a defender and the refs are giving it every time. This means defenders are too scared to touch them as they know what will happen if there's the slightest contact, and refs are always going to give it to those players.

They need to either redefine the amount of contact needed, or just top giving the decisions. Some of them are for less contact than a foul in basketball, it's just embarrassing. If the refs start booking them for diving, then they'll stop doing it. But they won't because a) they are weak, and b) they simply can't resist giving those decisions to the big clubs, even with minimal replay evidence to suggest they should.

Another thing Referees look at both on field and VAR is the so called “unnatural” position of the arm for a hand ball. Why isn’t the unnatural position of the attacking players leg that is hung out or straightened during the natural running motion as they run at or past a defender also given the same treatment? Also the unnatural way they fall or turn after “contact”?
This just encourages players to win easy penalties or free kicks.

The thing that gets me about Grealish is he is a fantastic footballer but I cannot stand him because of his diving. If he is the most “fouled” player in the Premier League them why isn’t he out with injuries all the time? He is cut out for La Liga, he would fit like a glove in the Barcelona midfield.

I'm mid 40s. I grew up watching a complete.different game. I played as a defender myself and was very physical. Not dirty. Physical. But that was when crunching tackles were fine as long as you got the ball first.

I used to love seeing players hit a crunching tackle on the opposition and run off with the ball. Bonds, dicks, Allen etc.

One of the phrases I hate most is "he's felt a touch, he's entitled to go down". It's diving. It's cheating. And I fucking hate it. But until diving is looked at it will.continue. tv always going on about how grealish is the most fouled player whilst completely ignoring how he throws himself down. Tv just ignoring how.salah, son and kane would fit in alongside Tom daly.

And ignoring how vary runs past people, kicks them and gets a penalty out if it.

It's an aspect of the game I despise.

Was good (and surprising) to see the penalties for Man U and Arsenal get overruled because of diving (Man U) & just shoulder to shoulder contact (Arsenal).
Just need to apply that across the board (ie also to SALAH)

Plenty of upper body contact goes on and that won’t change at all. What we don’t see are the sliding tackles that used to be part of the English game in particular.

I would like to see what constitutes a fail to be interpreted as such wherever on the pitch it takes place. For several seasons I have heard experts/ commentators say following a tackle outside the box which the ref ignored “in the box he would have awarded a penalty”. And conversely following a mild tackle in the box for which a penalty was awarded “outside the box the ref would have ignored it”.

There were a couple of occasions this weekend, where there was contact, but the refs didn't give the penalty's because they decided the person fouled was making a meal of it.

That's much better than what they've been doing for the majority of the season, so maybe they're waking up?

The game now is just a virtual billboard for corporations and Asian gambling companies.

It's an almost unwatchable game for me now anyway.

Hate cheating in sport and that's all half the game is nowadays.

Rule changes and technology are meant to improve a sport as a spectacle, but other than goal line technology, everything else has just killed it.

Sit there listening to ex pros spout a load of bollocks about what's happened when 99% of the time I'm thinking it isn't even a foul.

Gay as fuck.

True anyone over 40 is watching a totally different game these days and like many where we use to just love watching any game are now contented to which only the Hammers.
Does make me laugh when sky experts talk about being "old school" and they only stop playing some 5/6 years ago.
Blood & thunder games under the flood lights are long gone like that first love . Dont be bitter it was dam good falling in love with her at the time.

When it does, it will be another link with the past gone, and one less chance to compare life today with life "back then".

At that point we won't be able to argue with the authorities when they say "Life is so much better now," even if it isn't.

It is going that way isn’t it, the authorities don’t seem to want to stamp out all this play acting and diving at every opportunity to get a penalty or an opposition player sent off.

And if it’s down to the medical establishment heading would be banned, as would boxing, don’t they even object to boxing with head gear, rugby would also be scaled back to be touch only.

What Tak said. Heading will go and any physical contact will be punished. Ok if your'e a kid growing up with it but for anyone over 40 the game we knew has gone.
